Piper is a popular variety of sudangrass. It performs well in dry conditions. As it is a member of the sorghum family, there is a risk of prussic acid poisoning in livestock, but it can be mitigated with proper management. Seeding rate ranges from 20 to 50 pounds per acre. The higher the rate, the finer the stems, making it more palatable.
