Japanese Millet is occasionally used for forage, but is primarily used for wildlife seed. It is one of the most tolerant species of wet feet, and is commonly used on ground too wet for other species. It is one of very few species that can tolerate flooded soils once established.
Unlike sorghum species, Japanese Millet is not a concern for prussic acid poisoning. Nitrates should still be managed appropriately.
